The training and existence of voluntary First Response Team members lessens the impact of sudden cardiac arrest by supporting employee and worksite preparedness and response and optimizing a person’s chance for survival.

First Response Team members are volunteers, who are currently certified.  Responsibilities include providing CPR, the use of an AED or Heimlich Maneuver for choking in an emergency situation to associates who are in need of assistance until emergency personnel arrive.

The FRT should only use the emergency procedures that are within the limits of the training and for which they are currently certified to render.

Team members are identified by an orange flag at their desk.  FRT members are provided additional supplies in the event of an actual emergency to include a face shield and gloves combination kit as well as an orange flag. Supplies may be replaced as needed.

FRT members may resign at any time by contacting the Safety and Occupational Health Office at 614-692-2332.

Infant and child CPR or first aid aren’t offered because children and infants aren’t in the work areas. There’s medical professionals at our clinics and at the fire station should first aid be required.  For available first aid or infant/child CPR classes and fees, contact the local American Heart Association.

DLA organizations and installation tenants are covered by the medical services contract.  Installation employees that aren’t covered by the contract may attend the training as space allows on a case-by-case basis.

Training slots may be limited by budgetary, contract, certification requirements and constraints.  Preference may be given to employees based on site-specific characteristics to ensure equitable coverage of worksite and access to trained personnel.  Preference may be given to employees renewing FRT certification requirements.

Interested first time employees or re-certifiers must obtain prior approval from their supervisor, then directly schedule the Certified Adult Specific CPR and AED training. Associates need to verify with their supervisor for correct time sheet code.

Contractors must obtain prior approval from supervisor to schedule and attend the Certified Adult Specific CPR and AED training.

Once enrolled, associates are expected to attend and arrive early.  Late arrivals won’t be admitted.

All required paperwork provided by the trainer must be completed. Training participants will be asked if they want to volunteer as a FRT member. If interested, associates should check the appropriate block on the registration DSCC Form 2278 and complete the Volunteer Statement.
