DSCC and the Environmental Division

By Dana Thornbury DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs

The environment is a focus for many June observances such as World Environment Day, Nature Photography Day and National Pollinator Week.

Environment conservation is an ongoing effort at the Defense Supply Center Columbus.

In 2018, the installation planted more than 160 trees and became a certified USA Tree City earlier this year. Efforts continue to maintain the core standards of sound urban forestry management.

The Environmental Division partnered with MWR to establish their Eco Promises campaign that is focused on offering more eco-friendly options throughout the MWR facilities.

The installation also hosted its annual Shred Day event where 27 cubic yards of paper were diverted from entering landfills.

Additionally, the division works with the child development center to teach gardening and conservation to the kindergarten preparatory classes.

In 2019, volunteer opportunities were also established to assist with various environmental initiatives on the installation.
