Name: Jeffrey Jones

Organization: DLA Aviation at Cherry Point

Years of Service: four years with federal government, six months with DLA Aviation

What is your job title, and what do you do, specifically? I am a customer support technician. As a CST, I thoroughly research funded requisitions for Fleet Readiness Center East and fulfill their unfilled orders.  I use all available means necessary to fill these requirements by use of lateral support or surplus material offered by vendors.  In addition, I submit requests to expedite the award of purchase requests or contracts to improve the delivery date or request partial shipments.  I use many valuable resources and touchpoints within both DLA Aviation at Cherry Point and Fleet Readiness Center East to build lasting relationships while working together to support our warfighter.

What do you like most about your job? I like the people I work with and the comradery within our work area.

What is your fondest memory of working for DLA Aviation? My fondest memory was my first team building event where our supervisor got in a dunking booth.

What aspect(s) of your current job gives you the most personal satisfaction? I get the most personal satisfaction from turning unfilled orders into filled orders.  Why? This is because I know that the one order being filled brings us closer to getting the Warfighter ready to protect and defend our nation.

If you could speak directly to the warfighters you support, what would you tell them? I would tell them thank you for the sacrifices they are making so people like myself can sleep safe and sound at night.

What was your first job? I was a dishwasher at Ryan’s Family Steakhouse.

What advice would you have given yourself 10 years ago? I would say invest in the stock market.

Where do you see yourself five years from now? I see myself playing a larger role within DLA Aviation.

Do you have an unfulfilled wish? Other than being filthy rich, I feel that I have been truly blessed.

What’s your biggest pet peeve? My biggest pet peeve is seeing people take advantage of one another.

What are some of your passions outside of work? Outside of work, my passions are my family and coaching youth sports.

What’s the most thrilling/adventurous thing you have ever done? The most thrilling thing I have done is get on a waterslide; I’m not very adventurous.

If you had a theme song, what would it be and why? My theme song would be “Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin because it’s a song about being resilient.

If you could pick a personal motto, what would it be? If you’re not part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem.

Who is the most influential person in your life...past or present? My father is the most influential person in my life.

Who is your favorite actor or actress and why? My favorite actor is Denzel Washington because he makes you believe he is whatever the role he is playing whether cop, pilot, train conductor or criminal.

What is your favorite military aircraft?  Why? My favorite aircraft is the H53, Sea Stallion, because it was the first line I worked on as a federal employee; it holds a special place in my heart.

If you could start your life over again, what would you do differently? I would have spent more time with loved ones I lost and saved money when I was younger.

What is your proudest accomplishment? My proudest accomplishment is graduating from East Carolina University with my Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution and Logistics.

What five things could you absolutely not live without? I couldn’t live without my wife, my children, my Xbox, my phone and my own transportation.

What is/are your favorite book(s), television show(s) or movie(s)? My favorite TV show is “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”

What type of music do you most enjoy? I enjoy hip-hop.

Have you had a mentor that helped you grow in your career? If so who, and how did they help? My mentor was Ronald Russell. I met Ron back in 2015 when we both worked for Fleet Readiness Center East on the H53 Aircraft line. He taught me everything he knew without trying to withhold information as well as the importance of keeping good records.

Have you ever been a mentor to a co-worker or other employee?  If so, how did you help them grow? I have not officially been a mentor to another co-worker, but anyone I’ve trained, I did my best to teach them all the things that were taught to me in the same manner as my mentor Ron Russell.
