PRESA, Italy –
DLA Distribution Sigonella, Italy, military personnel conducted a community relations event at the Chiesa Maria Ss. delle Grazie Church. Built in 1846 and enlarged in 1873, the Chiesa Maria is a historical church located in a small village called Presa in Piedimonte Etneo—a town nestled below Mt. Etna between the mountains and the sea.
DDSI personnel teamed up with The Green Jacket Club to clean and organize the church in preparation of the Church’s annual Patron Saint Festival. The local festival is held every August to show respect to the Saint that protects the city. According to DLA Distribution Sigonella, Italy Navy Cdr. Vincent V. Erno, “DLA Distribution Sigonella, Italy, has the pleasure of being located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea on the historically-rich island of Sicily. It is only fitting that we give back to this beautiful area by helping to maintain the historical community buildings.”
Community relations events inform the public about the local military, and help maintain a viable and visible relationship with the communities throughout the area. Its goal is to promote volunteerism and community service between military personnel and local communities.
