National Disability Awareness Month Spotlight: John Slone

By DLA Public Affairs

Editor’s Note: The Defense Logistics Agency recognizes National Disability Awareness Month throughout October. To honor the contributions of employees with disabilities, DLA is highlighting those who work daily to support the agency’s global mission.

My name is: John Slone

I am: Acting branch chief of the Process Management Branch, DLA Finance Energy

Describe your job in a sentence: I plan and perform critical system fix actions, often engaging with multiple business offices to complete the mission. I provide support and insight into energy product and non-product programs to provide better energy solutions to our customers.

How long have you worked at DLA? Over nine years

What is your favorite thing about working for DLA? This is a great workplace where all colleagues demonstrate equal respect for everyone. We are all here to support America’s warfighters worldwide and provide relief to Americans at home and overseas who affected by disasters.

How do you make a difference? I celebrate each day by searching for those characteristics that bind us together and not those that make us different.

Why is it important to you we celebrate Disability Awareness Month? To educate all that one’s disability is not an obstacle to working with other people. We all are more alike than not! Our differences provide us the opportunity to explore alternative ideas and to support DLA’s Strategic Plan on People and Culture, “Resource the Enterprise: Recruit and retain a diverse, talented, and skilled workforce.”
