Nominations, adoptions open for Adopt-a-Family Program

McNamara Headquarters Complex employees can spread their Christmas cheer and goodwill with fellow employees through the annual Adopt-a-Family Program.

Sponsored by the Defense Logistics Agency Chaplain’s Office, the program provides holiday gifts for children of employees assigned to DLA, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Defense Technical Information Center and Defense Contract Audit Agency.

Employees can be nominated or self-nominate through Nov. 22 by filling out the 2019 nomination form and emailing it to or delivering it to the chaplain’s office in Room 1351, Suite 1344. Nominations must include information such as the age, gender and toy recommendations for each child in the household.

Adoptions can be done by offices or individuals and are made on a first-come, first-served basis starting Nov. 18 until all families are adopted. The chaplain’s office manages families’ wish lists and coordinates deliveries and asks that gifts be addressed to specific children, wrapped and provided to the chaplain’s office by Dec. 16. Cash and gift cards will not be accepted.

The program makes it easy for employees in turbulent times to anonymously reach out for help and gives employees the opportunity to help a family in need.

“This is the fourth year that I have participated, and seeing the program from both sides affords me a unique perspective. It makes me feel good to help others, and I can see the benefits of others helping people that I know and care about,” wrote one long-time participant.
