Chase ensured the unit understood where they fit into the Joint Reserve Organization and conveyed the importance of prior planning for reserve support eliminating the need to be reactive.

Upon conclusion of the brief, DLA Distribution San Joaquin commander Marine Col. Tiffany Harris discussed the cohesive relationship with the reserve unit supporting the mission at San Joaquin.

Next, Chase was taken on a tour in the mission area and had the opportunity to see the reservists working in the mission areas. The first stop was the Consolidation and Containerization Point. The CCP is the Strategic Distribution Platform for the USINDOPACOM area of responsibility.

The tour continued in the Unitized Group Rations area. The distribution center is the sole Department of Defense provider of Unitized Group Ration-Heat and Serve and UGR-M option meals. The San Joaquin team assembles these meals for the services and specifically assembles the UGR-M for the U.S. Marine Corps.

The last stops of the tour included Warehouse 13 where he had the opportunity to observe the reservists completing materiel equipment training. The last stop was at Warehouse 17 where the team was working with Stock Positioning.

After the tour, Chase returned to Warehouse 16 to tour the reserve unit’s spaces and was provided the unit overview presented by the DLA Expeditionary Distribution Support Unit San Joaquin’s Commanding Officer Navy Cmdr. Christopher Lewis. Further, he had the opportunity to have lunch with his Sailors.
