Maurice Hammond, DLA Distribution Norfolk, Virginia, is awarded Vehicle/MHE Management Civilian Leader of the Year

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Serving as a motor vehicle operator leader for Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, Norfolk, at the largest U.S. naval base, Maurice Hammond has consistently demonstrated professionalism, a willingness to instruct and has earned the admiration of his peers. As a result, Hammond has been named the DLA Distribution Vehicle/HME Management Civilian Leader of the Year.

Hammond, acting with a mission accomplishment and warfighter first mentality, consistently sought out the most efficient way possible to meet the customer’s needs. Hammond did all of this while leading a team of 17 other motor vehicle operators. Through his leadership, over 120 thousand pallets of material were delivered in 2019.
Hammond paid particular attention to delivery operations to ensure backlogs were mitigated. Acutely aware that leadership involves a team effort, Hammond assisted his team with guidance and extra research whenever necessary.

An example of selfless devotion, Hammond regularly volunteered for sudden assignments with short deadlines, demonstrating the adaptability required to support our nation’s warfighters.

In September 2019, Hammond was instrumental in loading 534 pallets of supplies on board Navy ships responding to natural disaster relief. Working alongside his subordinates until the last pallet was loaded, in addition to the regular duties of the day, Hammond exhibited selfless devotion and dedication to duty.

Hammond’s efforts are a great reflection upon DLA Distribution Norfolk, Virginia, and speak highly to his own personal responsibility and dedication to duty.
