FORT BELVOIR, Va. –
Employee generosity has enabled the Defense Logistics Agency to exceed its Combined Federal Campaign goal of $260,000 for the national capital region.
Local employees pledged $261,505 as of Jan. 6 and contributions can be made through Jan. 15.
“I have an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride in our employees’ generosity,” said DLA Finance Deputy Director Jeff Zottola. “I think everybody – all of our staff – is struggling with the current pandemic and there are additional hardships that everybody is dealing with. But even given those circumstances employees have shown that they care and are willing to help others who are less fortunate.”
By Jan. 4, DLA Logistics Operations led donations with $59,637 followed by DLA Energy with $54,252 and the Director’s Staff with $33,098. Contributions will help charitable organizations with causes ranging from homelessness and human rights to animal welfare.
In the 2019 campaign, DLA employees in the region donated over $274,000.
“CFC is a great way to be part of something bigger than yourself. It’s convenient and charities are all vetted so you can give with confidence that your contribution will be used as intended,” said DLA Campaign Manager Gordon Weiss.
Employees can give volunteer hours as well as monetary donations.
“It’s not all about giving cash. There are a lot of very worthy organizations that need help in terms of labor or time and are more than willing to accept assistance through volunteerism,” Zottola said, encouraging employees who haven’t yet contributed to consider helping fellow Americans “weather the storm.”
CFC coordinators and keyworkers assigned to every directorate will continue reaching out to employees to offer help placing donations. Donors can choose from over 20,000 nonprofit charitable organizations that support causes ranging from homeless veterans and endangered species to cancer. Since it began in 1961, federal employees have raised over $8.4 billion.
Employees can donate by credit card or payroll deduction on a one-time or reoccurring basis at GiveCFC.org or the CFC Giving Mobile App on their Apple or Android cell phone. Both options are secure and allow users to search for specific charities or view a list of organizations that support specific categories in their choice of geographic locations. To donate volunteer hours rather than money, select a charity with a hand icon next to it.
