DLA Distribution Commanding General delivers Memorial Day remarks

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs

This Monday, 30 May 2022, we observe Memorial Day to honor and pay tribute to the men and women serving in uniform who bravely gave their lives to assure our freedom and to remember the sacrifices of their loved ones.

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was first observed in 1866 in the aftermath of the Civil War. The observance became an official holiday in 1971 to honor more than one million men and women who have died in defense of their country and whose remains lie in almost every city or town.

A national moment of remembrance will be observed at 1500 on Memorial Day. I ask you to give pause and reflect on the meaning of the day and the men and women in uniform who gave the last full measure defending our country.

Mr. Knight and I thank you for your continued dedication to our great nation, to the memory of those who fought so courageously for it, and to the families of the fallen.

Please have a safe Memorial Day weekend and be alert to the risks associated with activities and travel.
