DLA Distribution Commander delivers Independence Day message

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs

It brings me great pleasure to address you for the first time as your Commander, to recognize the importance of the upcoming celebration of our Nation’s Independence.

As we celebrate the July 4th holiday, we commemorate the brutal battles fought, the long debates, the many renditions of the Declaration of Independence reviewed and edited, and the resolution of the leaders who endured it all to establish our freedom, liberty, and independence.

Looking back at the start of the American Revolution in April of 1775, it was then that the first shots were fired between American colonists and British troops with the battles of Lexington and Concord. As tensions mounted, the Second Continental Congress met on July 2, 1776, and voted in favor of independence from Britain. On July 4, 1776, Congress approved the final draft of the Declaration of Independence. Meanwhile, in the New York harbor, British troops landed at Staten Island, preparing for battle with General George Washington’s forces. By August 4th, all delegates of the Continental Congress had signed and finalized the document.

The upcoming 246th birthday of our great Nation is a time to reflect on the freedoms we cherish and an opportunity to recommit ourselves to ensuring life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for future generations.

I am honored and humbled to have been selected to command this great organization, and even more thrilled to be part of an exceptional organization that is focused on supporting our Warfighters, Federal agencies and our whole of government partners.

Mr. Knight and I would ask that you take this time off to rest, recharge, and reflect with pride and honor on the fight for freedom, peace and security our ancestors endured, and how we can continue to honor the great nation they established.

We wish you a memorable and safe celebration. Have a happy July 4th holiday!
