Two Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support service members are being recognized for their dedication and commitment to the agency’s mission.

Air Force Master Sgt. Woodrow Ruff, an Industrial Hardware acquisition specialist, and Army Staff Sgt. Brandon Miller, a Subsistence supply specialist and operational rations manager, were named DLA Senior and Junior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Third Quarter, respectively, in an agency announcement July 27.

“I am very honored, to not only represent the military as [senior NCO] of the quarter, but to represent all of Troop Support,” Ruff said.

While he was humbled at his recognition, Ruff said he was more excited when he found out Miller was recognized as well.

"That guy is a super troop,” he said.

For Miller, being selected was a surprising, but humbling experience.

“When I initially found out, I was in disbelief,” he said. “I’m certain that there were a lot of great candidates for this selection. I feel honored to represent DLA Troop Support and be recognized as one of the best the Defense Logistics Agency has to offer.”

According to their nomination packets, Ruff and Miller have made a tremendous impact as members of the DLA Troop Support team, as well as their respective services.

Ruff procured 20,000 hardware items, worth $500,000 and resulting in 427 backorders filled.

He also initiated a career broadening shadow program for junior enlisted airmen at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to visit DLA Troop Support and gain a broader perspective of military logistics support.

Miller oversaw a 60-day Subsistence prime vendor contract worth $84 million, which supported 4,000 service members in three operational theaters.

He also managed operational rations worth $12 million and oversaw four warehouses that housed food for 25,000 service members deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. OIH is operation to eliminate the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorist group, also known as ISIL.

Robert Ratner, DLA Troop Support chief of staff, called Ruff and Miller “two of our best and brightest.”

“This is a great honor and clearly recognizes the contributions and efforts of these two superlative NCOs,” he said.
