Air Force Tech. Sgt. Walter Lang, customer service technician in the Map Support Office at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Norfolk, Va., has been awarded the 2014 Global Distribution Excellence: Material Management NCO of the Year award for his outstanding professional skill, knowledge, and leadership.

Lang streamlined warehouse operations to ensure proper reutilization of recycled shipping material to effectively decrease operating costs.  He processed more than 100,000 geodetic products for more than 200 customers, from all branches of service, Department of Defense, and other federal agencies.  His services directly supported joint military exercises, including Bold Alligator and Joint Warrior.

“Technical Sergeant Lang is totally committed to providing the best support possible to the entire DLA Distribution Norfolk command,” said Navy Capt. Harry Thetford, the organization’s commander.

Lang instructed over 20 military and civilian mariners in procurement and automatic distribution procedures, improving material management at the various commands at which the students were assigned.

“His noteworthy achievements as a military member are incredibly worthy of this honor,” said Thetford.
