April 15, 2016 —
April is Sexual Assault and Prevention Month. “Eliminate Sexual Assault: Know Your Part, Do Your Part” is this year’s theme.
To help provide on-the-spot employee resources, Defense Logistics Agency Aviation will soon field a new mobile application called “We Care Aviation.” The free app will be available for download in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. No sign-in or registration is required.
Meanwhile, employees may preview the application via their browser at We Care Aviation.
“Sexual assault is a criminal act that will not be tolerated,” said Air Force Brig. Gen. Allan Day, DLA Aviation commander. “I’m excited to field this mobile app that puts information at the fingertips of our military, civilian and contracted employees, though I pray they will never need it.”
The app provides information to those who may be a victim or a witness of sexual assault or harassment. It also provides the Department of Defense definition of sexual assault and the different categories, which are rape, sexual assault, abusive or aggravated sexual contact, and forcible sodomy.
“The success of our Sexual Assault and Prevention Program depends on each and every one of us, from senior leaders to the newest employees, upholding our values of integrity and accountability and doing our part to maintain a safe and secure workplace environment for all,” said Day.
In additional to providing 24-hour crisis hotlines through local (Fort Lee, Virginia 1-804-894-0029) and national entities (DoD Safe Help Line 1-877-995-5247), the app guides victims and witnesses through steps to take if assaulted, stages of recovery, and reporting avenues.
The app also provides users with suicide prevention information to include risks, warning signs, and frequently-asked-questions.
Employees are encouraged to provide feedback on the ease of use and helpfulness of the “We Care Aviation” app to Navy Lt. John Harmony, Navy acquisition and contracting intern, DLA Aviation Supplier Operations Directorate, via email at email@example.com.
