EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Onethia Maxwell

By DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Name: Onethia D. Maxwell

Organization:  DLA Aviation Command Group

Years of Service:  11

What is your job title, and what do you do, specifically? My official job title is command support analyst. This is just another way to say I am the executive assistant to the commander.

What do you like most about your job?  The things I like about my job are interacting with variety of people and the challenge of balancing several priorities at one time.

What kind(s) of training and education helps your work performance in your current role?  I believe my Master of Business Administration in human resource management and my Bachelor of Arts in mass communications both contribute equally to my work performance in my current role as the executive assistant to the commander.

What aspect(s) of your current job gives you the most personal satisfaction?  Why? I love helping people and that gives me the most personal satisfaction.  Helping internal and external customers also helps my boss. I pride myself in providing extraordinary customer service because I also love to receive great customer service.

What is your biggest pet peeve? Procrastination and failure to accept responsibility for one’s own actions are my biggest pet peeves. I believe in always operating under the principle of having a sense of urgency.  One thing I have learned is you’re going to make mistakes. So face it, embrace it and erase it; just keep swimming as Dory advises in the animated movie “Finding Nemo.”

What are some of your passions outside of work?  Working in my yard and interior design are my passions outside of work.

If you had a theme song, what would it be and why?  If I had a theme song it would be, “I Am Every Woman.” It describes all my roles.  I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and a career woman.

If you could pick a personal motto, what would it be? My personal motto is attitude not aptitude determines your altitude.  My fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Eileen LaFrance preached this to my class many moons ago and I still live by those words.

What is your proudest accomplishment? My children are my proudest accomplishments; Markida, Kennedy, and Matthew.

What five things could you absolutely not live without? Shopping, baking, books, HGTV and most importantly, my family.

What type of music do you most enjoy? Gospel, jazz, and rhythm and blues.
