A Women’s History Month interview with DLA Energy leaders

By DLA Energy Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency Energy Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Jimmy Canlas and Deputy Commander Eric Smith sat down for a conversation with DLA Energy Equal Employment Opportunity, Diversity and Inclusion Director Ahmad Burse to honor and recognize the importance of Women’s History Month, March 18.

The leaders discussed trailblazing military women, strong female leaders and – closer to home – workforce equality.

In Part 1 of the interview, the leaders talked about female mentors and role models like 1st Lt. Medellin D’Eletto, a flight nurse during World War II, Air Force Gen. Maryanne Miller, who retired last year and was only the fourth female four Star general in the Air Force’s history, Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Jennifer Kersey and America's first female vice president Kamala Harris. The leaders also shared their respect and admiration for the women in their personal lives.

In Part 2, the leaders discuss more current workforce trends and efforts to improve our representation of female employees within the DLA Energy workforce. They discuss communication, mentoring, coaching, developmental opportunities, inclusion and the challenges of balancing careers with family life.
