Norfolk’s Kang’ea named Supervisor of the Quarter

By Emily Tsambiras DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Edwin Kang’ea, supervisory traffic manager at DLA Distribution Norfolk, Va., has been named Supervisor of the Quarter for the third quarter of fiscal year 2015 for his superior performance in leading and executing the functions and tasks of the organization’s Traffic Management Division.

“Mr. Kang’ea is an excellent leader with a ‘can do’ attitude, attention to detail and unwavering customer focus,” said Kang’ea’s supervisor, Diane Hobbs.  “On numerous occasions, he led his team to expedite mission critical shipments to customers worldwide.”

Most notable, she said, were two separate shipments destined for Japan and the Philippines with seemingly unrealistic delivery requirements.  Kang’ea and his team came through for the customer, working across departments to ensure mission critical material was pulled from an ocean conveyance, repackaged, and manifested for air delivery in order to meet the ship for a critical supply effort in the theater of operations.

By working across various organizations, such as Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support Transportation and Distribution, Air Mobility Command Norfolk, and National Guard, Kang’ea ensures customers receive their orders in a timely manner and all transportation requirements are met to prevent delays.

During the third quarter, he and his team processed more than 715 less-than-truckload requests and 300 air freight requirements,  booked nearly 300 containers, and coordinated 15 ship request offloads – all while complying with audit readiness procedures and documentation requirements.

According to Hobbs, Kang’ea serves as the “go to” person for all things transportation related. “His vast knowledge of the traffic management procedures makes him an invaluable asset. He is always willing to share his expertise and provide technical support to anyone who requires assistance. He not only assists personnel when they encounter problems, but takes the time to teach them how to solve the problem themselves.  He is extremely customer oriented and always goes the extra mile to ensure customer’s needs are met.”
