Puget Sound employee art showcases “warfighter first” focus

By Emily Tsambiras DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Thanks to the talents of one employee, the DLA Distribution Puget Sound, Wash., workforce has a permanent reminder of the mission they serve.

Dedicating more than 30 hours of his own time, quality assurance supervisor Rosauro Aldana hand painted three murals spanning the organization’s command suite.  The art depicts an interpretation of the DLA logo, the American flag, and the landscape of nearby Mt. Rainer.

Aldana, who has sketched and painted since he was a child, said he was first inspired to paint the waving American flag to serve as a background to photos of the military service’s logos, currently on order to be added to the wall.  Once the first piece was finished, however, he noticed the other walls in the area seemed barren.  “I decided to paint the second wall to represent the DLA flag, with the eagle and 13 stars.”  The third wall was then completed, featuring the Pacific Northwest.

Despite the praise he has received for his work, Aldana says he doesn’t consider himself good at drawing or painting; he simply finds it entertaining.  However, this is not his publicly showcased work.  “I did a lot [of drawing and painting] back in the Philippines before I enlisted in the Navy and during my early years while stationed onboard Navy ships and shore commands.  I have also contributed sketches to the Navy Personnel Command's magazine ‘LINK.’”

Aldana’s efforts do not go unappreciated.  “Ross is very talented.  His art complements the office very nicely and provides a visual reminder of our ‘warfighter first’ focus,” said DLA Distribution Puget Sound commander Navy Cmdr. Mark Peace.
