NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
DLA Distribution is partnering with the United States Transportation Command to schedule strategic sustainment material through the emerging Trans-Arabian Network routes. The TAN fully supports the United States Central Command’s plans to improve and create a robust ground network throughout the Arabian Peninsula, with alternative options, such as sea and air, as required.
As part of a larger innovation strategy in the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility, DLA Distribution is pursuing a Bahrain centric distribution strategy for the Arabian Peninsula countries.
Due to limited access to ground routes on the Arabian Peninsula, DLA Distribution supports most countries on the peninsula from DLA Distribution Germany or from the strategic distribution platform in New Cumberland, Pa., DLA Distribution Susquehanna.
DLA Distribution’s only current enduring facility in the CENTCOM AOR is in Manama, Bahrain. This facility, known as DLA Distribution Bahrain, is currently focused on the Navy component and supports elements in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
In the future, the Bahrain facility will support all countries on the peninsula. The stocking decisions will be based on agency models and comparable response times at a significant transportation savings. At this time, DLA Distribution has forward stocked 200 National Item Identification Numbers of Class IX materials, which includes repair parts and components such as kits, assemblies, and subassemblies required for maintenance support of equipment. Additionally, they have stocked 22 NIINs of Class IV, which includes construction materials, including installed equipment and all fortification and barrier materials.
The purpose of the forwarded stocked materials, is to increase the volume of material moving between Bahrain and Kuwait, and to reduce customs clearance processing times. DLA is partnered with the 1st Theater Sustainment Command, who is conducting ground movement of the materials on the route.
“We are excited to start exercising the Trans-Arabian Network, Distribution HQ J3 Transportation Officer augmentation and the 1st TSC LNO will greatly increase success at kick-off,” said DLA Distribution Bahrain commander, Navy Cmdr. Erik Naley.
