DLA Energy honors fourth quarter employees

By DLA Energy Public Affairs

Putting the operational needs of the warfighter first earned Defense Logistics Agency Energy employees special mention for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2018.

Two employees were recognized as the civilian Employee of the Quarter in their respective grade level:
Larry Lewis, DLA Energy Americas at Houston, Texas, inventory management specialist, earned the WG/WL/GS-7 to 12 category and Marcus Ortman, DLA Energy Quality/Tech Support quality program manager, earned the GS-13 to GS-15 category for the period of July 1 through Sept. 30.

“Being a true team player, Larry has come to the rescue of his coworkers with Defense Fuel Support Points Houston multi capabilities,” said his nominating official.

Lewis managed the most complex supply chain in Americas at Houston consisting of contracts, pipelines, barges, trucks and coordinating tanker support to seven DFSPs and 15 support sites in Texas and Louisiana.

He also led the Americas team during the 2018 Quartermaster Liquid Logistics Exercise, Hurricane Florence recovery efforts and supported presidential orders when U.S. Northern Command activated Operation Guardian Support.

Ortman, also a mission-focused employee, managed the Rocky Mountain West fuel purchase program while collaborating with the different Energy regions, business units and service partners.

Known for his expert quality control, Ortman addressed schedule issues and fuel quality concerns during the coordination of cargo discharge in support of Military Sealift Command to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to DLA Energy customers.

As the alternate Pacific region’s quality program manager, Ortman worked to resolve an emergent issue with Aviation Turbine Fuel Thermally Stable experienced by a Korean supplier working with numerous service partners to support the warfighter’s needs.

“Ortman’s use of collaborative tools to deliver valuable information to the dispersed quality workforce led the way for future training opportunities,” said his nominating official.

In addition to Lewis and Ortman Employee of the Quarter awards, the DLA Energy Korea quality assurance team was nominated for the DLA Director's Strategic Goals Award, small team category, in the area of Warfighter First and Global Posture. The team consists of Rodrigo Gonzalez, Jaime Sanchez, Larry Robbins, Douglas Edwardsen, Air Force Master Sgt. Matthew Cramer and Army Staff Sgt. Slade Shadle.

The DLA Energy Americas at Houston team was also nominated for the DLA Director's Strategic Goals Award, large team category, in the area of Warfighter First, Strong Partnerships and Always Accountable.

“These outstanding team players deserve to be recognized for their exceptional work,” said DLA Energy Chief of Staff Army Col. Steve Davis. “We all know that no one succeeds alone, so the command offers our thanks to everyone who was part of the larger team that continues to make us successful every day.”

Congratulations to all the winners as well as to those who were submitted for competition!
