NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
DLA Distribution Headquarters J4 Deputy Director, Navy Cmdr. Christopher R. Zegley, officially retired from the service June 11. DLA Distribution Commanding Officer, Navy Rear Adml. Kevin M. Jones, officiated the retirement ceremony as family, friends, and coworkers looked on.
Jones presented Zegley with a Defense Meritorious Service Medal; a Certificate of Appreciation from the Navy Supply Corps; and the official Certificate of Retirement. Zegley’s wife, Melissa, was presented a Certificate of Appreciation from the Chief of Supply Corps, for her unselfish, faithful, and devoted service during her husband’s naval career.
Zegley has served in the Navy for 22 years.
Enlisting in June 1997, Zegley went on his first tour aboard the USS SHILOH (CG-67), which was home-ported in Sand Diego, California. Since then, he has served in Iceland as the Stock Control Officer at the Naval Air Station and as an Aviation Support Division Officer aboard Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.
Zegley received his master’s degree at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California, with a sub-specialty in Contracting. After completing his initial contracting tour at Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in San Diego, he volunteered for a Global Support Assignment in Baghdad, Iraq where he served as a Contingency Contracting Officer supporting the training and advisory mission for the Iraqi Armed Forces. Zegley went on to become Director of Maritime Weapon Systems Contracting at Naval Supply Weapon Systems Support in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. There he led 48 contracting professionals in the execution of critical repair contracts in support of the Navy’s maritime depot level repairable program. From there he was assigned as a Readiness Officer within the Subsistence Supply Chain at DLA Troop Support supporting worldwide Class I requirements for the Joint Services.
In his remarks, Zegley thanked everyone who supported him in his career over the last 22 years. He especially went on to thank his wife Melissa, and his in-laws, for always being supportive.
“So while it has been an amazing journey that I would not change for the world, I want to recognize my wonderful wife Melissa Calladine who has been on this journey for the last 19 years of my career. Thank you Melissa for all that you’ve done, our time in the Navy was a success, I love you very much.”
After the ceremony, Zegley celebrated his retirement with a barbeque.
