Describe your job.

I am a Disposal Service Representative.  I provide customer services to various geographic areas within the states of Washington and Idaho, [addressing] on-site and off-site property disposal questions/concerns.

How long have you worked for the federal government including military service?

23 years.

How long have you worked for DLA Disposition Services?

12 years.

What is your favorite memory with DLA Disposition Services?

My deployment to Iraq working with counterparts in DLA and traveling to various bases to assist with scrap yards and scrap removals. I was very new to DLA at the time and a lot of knowledge was gained by seeing the hands-on processes of scrap removals.

What aspect(s) of your current job gives you the most personal satisfaction and why?

I enjoy working with customers and building a working relationship between the services and DLA Disposition Services Lewis. I receive satisfaction when I have given the customers the training and correct guidance about any type of disposal and then the customers successfully complete their disposition of excess property.

What is the best piece of advice someone has given you?

Not really advice given to me, but I continue to follow and help my friends, family, and coworkers understand about “The Mamba Mentality,” a mindset for constant self-improvement in the pursuit of your highest potential in life through Honesty, Detachment, Optimism, Passion, and Fearlessness.

What kind(s) of training and education helps your work performance in your current role?

Currently, I am acquiring hands-on knowledge from my senior DSR who will be retiring soon. I feel that this is one of the best types of training to help me be the best DSR I can be. Hands-on training from an experienced coworker who shares his knowledge about specific topics and scenarios that don’t happen often helps me deliver the best customer service to the generators by being ahead of any specific situations.

What was your first job?

Drive-thru at Arby’s (They have the meats!).

Any recent reads?

Most recent book read: The Mamba Mentality: How I Play.

Any shareable quotes?

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.” - Michael Jordan
