Wake Island
F-35B Lightning IIs fly over Wake Island, August 1. Wake Island, a U.S. Territory under administrative control of the Department of the Air Force, is less than 3 square miles – half the size of Key West, Florida – and is a strategic refueling stop for military aircraft in the middle of the Pacific Ocean located roughly 2,300 miles west of Honolulu and 1,500 miles east of Guam.
