DLA Aviation-Jacksonville celebrates National Aviation Day

President Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed Aug. 19 as National Aviation Day in 1939 as a way of celebrating the history and development of aviation. The date coincides with the birthday of Dayton, Ohio, native Orville Wright, who – along with his brother Wilbur – is credited with inventing the world's first successful airplane.
