Constructed in the early 1800s, the Schuylkill Arsenal began as a warehouse for ammunition and military supplies. The arsenal served the nation for over 100 years, supplying provisions for the Lewis and Clark expedition, the War of 1812, the Civil War and WWI. (Library of Congress)
