Fallen DLA Land and Maritime logistician honored with Army memorialization
“The courage and strength of our deployers and their commitment to the mission is inspiring,” said Kenneth Watson, deputy commander of the Central Ohio-based Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime, during a June 8 dedication ceremony honoring fallen DLA Land and Maritime logistician Stephen Byus. Byus died Sept. 16, 2014, in Kabul, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained in a suicide bombing while serving on the Combined Security Transition Command Afghanistan as a member of DLA’s civilian deployer contingent. Byus completed training and received equipment at Camp Atterbury shortly before what would be his final deployment.
