In any given year, thousands of excess body armor inserts have typically been demilitarized and destroyed by Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services. A new effort will see unusable boron carbide-rich protective plates shipped directly from the armed services to a DoW-contracted recycling facility for critical material extraction and reuse.
