Donald "Don" Bruce

Deputy Commander, DLA Europe & Africa

As of 26 April, 2021, Don is serving as the Deputy Commander of DLA Europe and Africa (DLA E&A), located at Kleber Kaserne in Kaiserslautern, Germany.  DLA E&A is responsible for synchronization of Agency activities in the U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command areas of responsibility across all functions in support of Warfighter and Whole of Government partners.  

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1959.  Enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1976.  Served in the active Marine Corps Reserve through college.  Graduated with a BS in Business Administration from Norwich University (Military College of Vermont) in 1981.  Commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation from college. 

From 1981 until 2004, held billets with increasing responsibility as a logistics officer at the Battalion, Regiment, Division/Force Service Support Group and Marine Expeditionary Force Levels.  Also served a joint tour of duty at HQ DLA as the Operations Center, Pacific Team Chief and a tour of duty in acquisition program management at Marine Corps Systems Command.  Held billets responsible for planning, execution and control of all functional areas of logistics to include supply and maintenance operations, deployment and distribution, health service support, engineering, logistics services and operational contract support. 

Retired from the Marine Corps in October 2004 and began service as a civilian logistician in the J3 at HQ DLA.  Initially served two years as a contractor in the Joint Logistics Operations Center (JLOC).  Converted to a government civilian position in 2006 and served in the J37 as a Distribution Action Officer.  Detailed to be the Deputy of the Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) Retrograde Support Team in 2007.  Deployed to Iraq and served as the lead planner for drawdown and retrograde on the Multi-National Force Iraq/U.S. Forces Iraq J4 staff.  Transferred to the Operations Center Plans Team upon return from Iraq in 2008.  Advanced to the position as Deputy for the Plans, Exercises and Readiness (PLEX-R) Branch in 2010.  Advanced to the position of JLOC Deputy in 2015 ASOC Deputy/Chief Operations Support in 2019 and stood up the Agency Synchronization and Operations Center (ASOC) in 2019. 

As a Marine attended professional military education, joint and service schools at the company and field grade level, including the Army Transportation Officer Advanced Course, USAF Airlift Operations Course, USAF Institute of Technology Logistics 301 and the Joint Staff College.  As a civilian attended the DoD Executive Leadership Development Program.  A member of several professional/civic organizations.  Received typical personal decorations as a Marine and several special act/service and performance awards as a civilian with DLA.  

Married to the former Elizabeth (Libby) Allen of Ludlow Vermont.  Three adult children, Jonathan, Alexander and Katherine.
