Karyn Runstrom is currently the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Chief of Staff. She is responsible for oversight of DLA staff operations in the areas of strategic planning, enterprise integration, organizational governance, strategic communications, legislative affairs, and installation management. The agency chief of staff coordinates and integrates with enterprise senior leaders and executive management teams and provides integration and oversight to Director’s Staff organizations, including Equal Employment Opportunity, Small Business Programs, Public Affairs, Enterprise Risk Management, Intelligence, Inspector General, Protocol, and the Director’s Staff Group.
Prior to assuming responsibility as chief of staff, Ms. Runstrom served as Deputy Director, DLA Information Operations (J6), where she supported the DLA Chief Information Officer in executive level oversight, management, and leadership of all DLA Information Operations programs, resources, and people supporting DLA and its global mission.
She previously served as the Deputy, Executive Director, Logistics, Policy and Strategic Programs Directorate (J34) for DLA Logistics Operations (J3), responsible for development and dissemination of enterprise-wide policy of key business and supply chain management functions for order fulfillment, planning, stock positioning, retail sustainment, transportation, distribution network, disposition, technical/quality, and logistics research and development functions.
Other previous assignments include: J62P Portfolio Manager, Center of Planning Excellence, where she led an agency-wide planning transformation initiative to integrate J3 operations and J6 information technology to deliver value added logistics systemic solutions to our nation’s warfighters, and Retail Integration Branch Chief, where she led the Inventory Management and Stock Positioning initiative, under the DoD’s 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) mandate.
Ms. Runstrom began her tenure with DLA in 2001 as a Transportation Intern in Defense Supply Center Philadelphia. She holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Philadelphia University and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Penn State University.
