Brigadier General Gail Atkins assumed command of DLA Land and Maritime, Columbus, Ohio, July 22, 2022. In her previous assignment she served as Deputy Commanding General for Support, 7th Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
As DLA Land and Maritime Commander, she oversees the end-to-end integration of the Land and Maritime Supply Chains delivering repair parts to all Military Services. She directs the efforts of more than 2,700 associates at 30 locations worldwide, to include three DLA Depot Level Reparable detachments, Army and Marine Corps industrial sites and four detachments supporting U.S. Naval shipyards. DLA Land and Maritime’s core functions include purchasing materiel, monitoring inventory levels, maintaining technical data, and assuring quality conformance of approximately 2.5 million spare and repair parts used by more than 21,000 military units and federal and civilian agencies. In FY2023, DLA Land and Maritime’s sales exceeded $4.4 billion.
Prior to her assignment with the 7th Infantry Division, Atkins served as executive officer to the deputy commanding general for Army Material Command at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama; and as commander of the Corpus Christi Army Depot in Corpus Christi, Texas. Before assuming command of CCAD, Atkins served as the Force Support Division Chief for J-8 Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment Directorate, Joint Staff at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.
Operational assignments include brigade aviation officer for 25th Infantry Division’s 4th Brigade Combat Team in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and commander of the 122nd Aviation Support Battalion for 82nd Airborne Division’s 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Additional assignments throughout Atkins career include command of a helicopter flight detachment at Chièvres Air Base in Belgium providing direct rotary wing support to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Commander; commander of U.S. Special Operations Command’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company; and air assault battalion operations officer for a 30-aircraft assault battalion.
Atkins holds a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, a Master of Science in Logistics Management from the Florida Institute of Technology, and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Eisenhower School of the National Defense University.
Atkins is entitled to wear the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal and Army Achievement Medal as well as various unit and campaign awards.
Atkins has earned the Master Parachutist Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Parachutist Badge, Senior Army Aviator Badge and Basic Army Aviator Badge.
Navy Retired Commander David Leiker and Atkins have four daughters.
