A native of Memphis, Tennessee, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1995 as a Heating Ventilation Air Condition and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Specialist, completed Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base (AFB), Texas, and graduated Technical School at Sheppard AFB, Texas in June 1995.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with one silver Oak Leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters, Air Force Achievement with three Oak Leaf clusters and several other awards and decorations.
He possesses an Associate of Applied Science in Mechanical Electrical Technology from Community College of the Air Force and a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources from Columbia Southern University. He also holds certifications in MIT Sloan School of Management and University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School.
