Columbus mayor visits DSCC

By Michael Jones DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs

DLA Land and Maritime Commander, Navy Rear Admiral Michelle Skubic welcomed Columbus, Ohio Mayor Andrew Ginther for a familiarization visit to the Defense Supply Center (DSCC) Columbus installation January 10. Ginther’s visit included an initial meeting with Skubic and her senior leadership team prior to receiving selected operations briefings.

‘We’re honored to have you here,” Skubic said as she briefly discussed some of the significant national strategic aspects of the Defense Logistics Agency’s Land and Maritime operations before transitioning to the more detailed briefing. She also noted the local economic impact of the installation’s combined 8,000 plus workforce, which she explained would rank DSCC as central Ohio’s fourth largest employer.

Ginther shared that this was his first visit to DSCC since he began his public service career in Columbus more than 15 years ago. “I’m thrilled to be here and I said to myself that If I’m going to be mayor of Columbus I’d better get over here and figure out what goes on and how we can continue to support and work with you moving forward, especially since you’re such a tremendous partner right here in Columbus’ back yard.”

In addition to briefings on Land and Maritime’s logistics mission, Ginther also received updates from a senior staffer from Defense Finance Accounting Services (DFAS) Columbus. DFAS supports payment activities for the nation’s military services and numerous other Department of Defense organizations.

Ginther’s visit concluded with a driving tour of the DSCC installation, which houses DLA, DFAS and 24 additional tenant organizations.
