Scholarships available for family members of DLA employees
By DLA Public Affairs
A nonprofit foundation is offering scholarships to students who have a close family connection to a current or past civilian or military Defense Logistics Agency employee.
The DLA Foundation (a 501(c)(3) non-profit not affiliated with DLA or the Department of Defense) begins accepting scholarship applications Feb. 13. The application period closes March 31. Awards will be announced by May 31.
Up to 30 scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded, based primarily on merit and financial need. A child, stepchild, grandchild, niece or nephew of a current or former DLA military or civilian employee may apply.
To be eligible, an applicant must also be a high school senior or college student who will attend an undergraduate school or trade/technical school as a full-time student (at least 12 semester hours) in academic year 2017-2018. Appointees to military service academies are not eligible. Students must also have at least a 2.0 grade point average. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, Student Aid Report will be used to determine financial need.
Additionally:
A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded through the Major General Charles R. Henry Scholarship to a current or former DLA military employee or a spouse, child, or grandchild of a current or former DLA military employee. Preference is given to wounded warriors.
A $2,000 scholarship will be awarded through a donor funded scholarship in honor of Mr. Frank Lotts for a child, stepchild, grandchild, niece, or nephew of a current or former DLA military or civilian employee who is pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM).
