C&E sends heavy equipment to support Iraq, counter ISIL

By Jason Kaneshiro DLA Troop Support Public Affairs

Armored bulldozers and track loaders provided by Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support are playing a role in protecting Iraq from the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Iraqi combat engineers will use the vehicles, provided through the Construction and Equipment supply chain’s Heavy Equipment Procurement Program on route clearing missions.

The U.S. Army Tank and Automotive Life Cycle Management Command ordered the vehicles for delivery to Iraqi forces in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

“The dozers and track loaders are deployed ahead of the convoy to clear IEDs and inspect possible threats,” said Don Jarosz, TACOM LCMC acting public affairs officer.

The equipment supports the ongoing campaign to degrade, dismantle and ultimately defeat ISIL and their support groups in Iraq, Jarosz said.

C&E is able to offer those vehicles and other equipment at a favorable cost to customers through established contractual relationships with the heavy equipment manufacturers, Robert Spadaro, HEPP program manager, said.

HEPP currently has 75 long-term contracts with various manufacturers for heavy vehicles and equipment. Through HEPP, individual delivery orders are competed among the participating vendors, unless the customer requires a specific brand. The vendor that represents the best value to the government is selected to supply the item.

C&E provides full support to HEPP customers, from their initial request for materiel through after delivery, including support for any warranty issues.

“If they have a need for any heavy equipment, they should come to us first,” Spadaro said. “More than likely, we’ll be able to provide something that meets their needs in a timely manner.”

In addition to bulldozers and track loaders, HEPP offers items such as material-handling equipment, cranes, trucks, trailers, firefighting and rescue vehicles, and ultra-light combat vehicles.
