Live-fire, last-minute, no problem for Information Operations' support of Army Reserve exercise
By Amber McSherry, Information Operations
The Army Reserve at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, had just begun a live-fire exercise to train and qualify 1,400 soldiers and needed a logo for the event.
It needed the logo in two days.
DLA Document Services
has a
facility in Fort McCoy
— but it only has one employee.
This wasn’t a problem for Jancee Doemel, who provided the logo and printing support for Operation Cold Steel, the Army Reserve’s first large-scale live-fire training and crew-served weapons qualification exercise, March 4-April 29. Document Services is part of DLA Information Operations.
Doemel had only a sketch to work from. “Most customers already have their logos or artwork complete and print ready by the time it gets to me,” Doemel said. However, “I was excited to be asked to create something of this magnitude… The best part was the opportunity to be creative and all the enthusiastic comments I’ve received.”
She included in the logo the specific weapons the soldiers used, including the M2 .50 caliber machine gun and the M240B machine gun. The vehicle in the logo, an M1151 Humvee, even has fender stickers referring to the 331st unit and Operation Cold Steel. The logo is customizable depending on the unit — and there are 60 participating in the exercise.
The customer was happy with what she produced. “The logo she created with zero to no guidance for Operation Cold Steel turned out amazing,” said Army Sgt. 1st Class Michael Terstegen. “It has been transformed into coins, logos for t-shirts, and magnets. It’s really the identity of Operation Cold Steel.”
The Fort McCoy print facility is producing certificates for vehicle crew evaluators, certificates of appreciation for soldiers and Fort McCoy personnel, as well as signs for operations and classrooms.
