DSCC highlights a few of our officers as a part of National Police Week (May 14 - 20).

According to policeweek.org, in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

Police officers risk their lives on a daily basis to keep citizens safe from crime.  This week pays special recognition to law enforcement officers who have sacrificed their lives to protect their communities.

How long have you been a police officer? 14 years

How long have you worked for DSCC? 8 years

Why did you decided to become a police officer?  When I was seventeen, I explored many career possibilities as most high school students do.  Law enforcement was one of my top choices and after speaking to my Navy recruiter, I was convinced that starting my career as an MP was at that time most enticing to me.

Do you remember the first call you ever took? My first call was an attempted suicide by cop... The individual had set his home on fire and was attempting to stab first responders with a pair of kitchen shears.

What is your most memorable call? Most memorable call or calls would have to be when I was a boat patrol officer in Key West, Florida. I would routinely get to deal with the Cuban drug runners or human smuggling operations.

What is your most enjoyable thing about your job? The most rewarding part of my job is the ability to help people.

How long have you been a police officer? 6 months

How long have you worked for DSCC? 3 years

Why did you decided to become a police officer? I wanted to become a police officer when I began missing my time in the Marine Corps. I missed putting on a uniform every day and working as part of a team.

Do you remember the first call you ever took? The first real call I responded to was a single car DUI accident at the Broad Street pedestrian gate.

What is your most enjoyable thing about your job? The most enjoyable thing about my job is the spontaneity, each shift is different. I also get to park wherever I want.

How long have you been a police officer? 15 years Security Forces and 4 years Federal Security

How long have you worked for DSCC? 1.5 years

Why did you decided to become a police officer? Growing up in DC, the Police were never too busy to ensure the kids were taken care of.

Do you remember the first call you ever took? Runaway at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea 

What is your most memorable call? My most memorable call was at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, we responded to Base Housing for report of animal cruelty. The dog was tied up on front porch wasting away from malnourishment. Upon arrival, we started taken care of the animal. We heard sounds from the garage, so we made entry into the house only to be met by an interior wasteland. Dirty pots and clothes were all over the house and the floor was riddled with trash. There were clouds of flies throughout the house as we made our way to the garage. After reaching the garage, it wasn't any better. We heard a child crying from inside of the mess. Once we moved deeper into the garage we found an infant in the middle of a playpen constructed of trash and boxes. We took care of the baby until EMTs arrived. Then we started our search for the parents; one was deployed and the mother was at the bar.

What is the most rewarding thing about your job? The most rewarding part of the job is when people actually notice that we are doing something good, and they thank us in person.
