In June, after about 3 years as the Executive Officer for the Defense Logistics Agency Joint Reserve Force, Navy Capt. Scott Giles will be leaving.
"While at DLA, I have seen an extraordinary level of teamwork, professionalism, and scope of support that simply amazes me," said Capt. Giles. "The J9 team is completely awesome. I am amazed of the accomplishments the team achieves on a daily basis with limited resources.
This was his second tour at DLA totaling 6 years assigned to the unit. As executive officer, he was responsible for the day to day operation of the unit reporting to the Director and Deputy Directors of the DLA JRF.
"Capt. Giles' performance at DLA has been phenomenal," said Robert McCullough, deputy director of the DLA JRF. He's one of those rare individuals who has an innate ability to lead and inspire people at all levels of command."
McCullough went on to say that he's a great multi-tasker and is easily able to handle projects with large amounts of data.
"It's phenomenal to see the scope of logistics, acquisition and technical services that DLA provides to the warfighter,” Giles said. “DLA accomplishes these functions with a great level of professionalism."
The Joint Reserve Force is comprised of more than 650 Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps reservists working together to support the DLA mission globally.
"It was great to work with such diversity. Each branch brings a particular strength", he said. “The J9 excels because of the can-do attitude of the people who are assigned throughout the Joint Reserve Force.”
His next assignment will be with the Commander of the Navy Reserve Forces Command, Norfolk, VA., as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics. In that role, he will be responsible for providing Uniforms and Contract Lodging for Navy Reservists and administering the Navy Reserve Government Purchase Card and Government Travel Card programs.
Giles has served in the Navy a total of 27 years, 4 enlisted and 23 as an officer.
