CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
Army Lt. Col. Brian Richie has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his achievements while serving as commander, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas.
Under Richie’s leadership, the Corpus Christi team achieved multiple improvements to include exceeding expectations in all 13 Acceptable Performance Levels.
To reduce backlog in the receiving branch, Richie conceptualized a tiger team to serve as a deployable team to augment process branches within the operations division. Ultimately, the tiger team reduced the receiving branch backlog by 27 percent, allowing the distribution center to sustain standard induction metrics. The team also followed the workload into the storage branch to assist with stowing assets to ensure items were processed no more than a few hours following induction.
Setting a leadership precedence and a model to mirror for DLA Distribution-led retail support to the industrial base, Richie established the right team members and hosted daily and weekly working group meetings to turn his vision into an operational success. The reduction of 25.4 man years of labor and the implementation of process enhancements in order to reduce overtime and excess materiel costs resulted a $3.6 million savings for customer Corpus Christi Army Depot in 2016.
As a result of Richie’s actions in promoting DLA Distribution’s capabilities, CCAD invited DLA Distribution Corpus Christi into their industrial environment to leverage the logistical power they provide. As a result, Richie directed a collaborative effort to support the industrial base with scheduled maintenance inductions with an emphasis to level load the production floor with predictable repairable asset delivery from the storage environment, reducing response time from 4.5 days to 1.37 days by December 2016.
Richie will be promoted to the rank of Colonel during a June 14 ceremony.
