NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
On a trip to the largest distribution center in DLA Distribution’s network, the organization’s commanding general Army Brig. Gen. John S. Laskodi received an update on major missions and operations during a visit to the organization’s East and West bulk sites on June 20.
Laskodi’s first stop was the site’s West bulk location, located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania is a dual-sited operation, headquartered in New Cumberland, with additional facilities at Mechanicsburg providing 3.3 million square feet of storage space, and maintaining over 450,000 National Stock Numbers.
The West bulk site has traditionally been used to store the distribution center’s slower moving commodities, and, now, the disposition mission the distribution center has inherited.
Laskodi toured the disposition mission, thanking the operation’s employees for their dedication to the mission, before visiting the Navy Advanced Traceability and Control Mission Area. There, Navy Lt. Darren Sablan, supply officer within the bulk division, showed Laskodi how Navy depot-level repairables items are stored until the Navy requires them to be repaired and re-used, rather than purchasing new items.
Returning to the site’s East location, Laskodi toured the Eastern Distribution Center, the largest distribution processing facility in DoD. The 1.7 million square foot Eastern Distribution Center handles 25 percent of DLA Distribution’s total receipt, storage, and issue of materiel worldwide.
Addressing Susquehanna’s leadership at the conclusion of his visit, Laskodi stated, “I am proud of the entire DDSP team for the phenomenal work meeting our most important customer-focused metrics over the past few months. Keep up the great work!”
