NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
Army Lt. Gen. Aundre F. Piggee, G-4 deputy chief of staff, and members of his team visited DLA Distribution headquarters June 27 for an overview of DLA Distribution, and a tour of DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s Eastern Distribution Center, the largest storage facility in the Department of Defense.
After an office call with Distribution commanding general Army Brig. Gen. John S. Laskodi, the team met with key Distribution staff to receive an organizational overview highlighting DLA Distribution’s 38 distribution centers and detachment sites worldwide, with particular focus on the how Distribution supports Army readiness.
Laskodi described how Distribution is currently supporting Army readiness and how the organization will continue to support the services into the future, highlighting the agency’s vision, saying “We are exceeding our DoD metrics across the board regardless of the issues we had such as the hiring freeze and IT infrastructure issues.
The group also discussed the Trans Arabian Network and the importance of facilitating access to move all Department of Defense cargo. The TAN is the interconnection of important sea ports, air ports and road networks in the countries of the Arabian Peninsula and most countries in the Levant.
“I am amazed that it has just been within the past 12 to 18 months that we are getting together a ground network [TAN]. The work has to be routine in order to build and maintain the necessary relationship with host countries,” said Piggee. “The TAN has been a huge enabler to that mission.”
Piggee stated how impressed he was with the innovative efforts of the Distribution team and its drive toward preparing for the future and commented “Especially since I became a general officer, I have noticed that in every instance, DLA has been leaning way forward. I applaud you for the great work you have been doing.”
Following the briefing, Susquehanna commander Army Col. Brad J. Eungard escorted the group on a tour of DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s Eastern Distribution Center.
