Excess reduction effort presses on at Gimcheon

By Tim Hoyle DLA Dispostion Services

Staff members at DLA Disposition Services at Gimcheon, South Korea, continue to demonstrate their support for divestiture efforts by a variety of Army commands peninsula wide.

Area Manager Terry Harrington said the Eighth Army, 2nd Infantry Division, 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and Material Support Command Korea have recently sought his team’s assistance in disposing of miscellaneous Class II and Class VII retrograde for items ranging from computers to shop sets to generators and even large tactical vehicles.

“This effort enables … forces to enhance their readiness by removing excess and outdated equipment,” Harrington said. “Synchronizing the movement of equipment to fill shortages while balancing resources galvanizes U.S. Forces Korea’s ability to ‘fight tonight’ with greater efficiency and effectiveness.”

Ed Forbes, a regional disposal service representative, said the Gimcheon staff has received more than 240 tactical vehicles since the Class II and Class VII Excess Reduction began with approximately 63 vehicles being prepared for turn-in. Forbes said the total number tactical vehicles to be turned in this year is approximately 576.  He also explained that the shop equipment includes motor pool type items such as engine diagnostic sets, automotive tool sets, tool kits, and other vehicle maintenance type items.
