DLA employees recognized by packaging community

By DLA Logistics Operations

Two Defense Logistics Agency employees recently received awards from the National Institute of Packaging, Handling and Logistics Engineers for their contributions to the packaging community.

Jennifer Smith, who works in the Technical and Quality Division in DLA Logistics Operations, received the Packaging Achievement Award. Eric Carter, who is on rotation with the TQ Division, received the Logistics Achievement Award. Carter will return to DLA Distribution when his rotation ends.

“Jennifer and Eric are ideal employees who possess the work ethic, leadership traits and technical skills required by our agency to achieve the goals of today and tomorrow,” said Patricia Wilkins, chief of the Technical Programs Branch in DLA Logistics Operations.

Smith’s efforts to revise several packaging processes streamlined procedures, automated manual processes, reduced workload and provided estimated annual savings of $3.6 million annually. Carter made improvements in de-packing and handling electrostatic discharge materials that are transported to several distribution centers. Those improvements will save $2 million and thousands of hours of unproductive work, as well as enhance safety for those handling the materials.

NIPHLE describes itself as a professional organization focused on distribution and logistics.
