FED LOG program celebrates milestone
By DLA Information Operations
The Defense Logistics Agency’s Federal Logistics program celebrated 25 years of premier customer service in a recent all-hands event in Battle Creek, Michigan.
FED LOG
provides Federal Logistics Information System data to over 200,000 customers worldwide from the Department of Defense, other federal agencies, government contractors, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and NATO-sponsored countries. Customers use it to obtain official-use-only supply information, including approved item names, manufacturer/distributor data, unit prices and performance characteristics.
“We’re proud of our FED LOG product,” said Jason Rogers, senior FED LOG program analyst. He noted the FED LOG team has made many improvements to the system over the years and is working to make it as versatile as possible.
FED LOG began at the start of the CD-ROM era, Rogers said. Because microfiche was expensive to produce, the program was at the forefront of 1980s technology. It serviced 5,000 customers at the start and grew the integration of the Army’s program, ArmyLog, into FED LOG.
Since its debut, the program has benefited from over 100 customer-driven enhancements, with new data elements from the various services to maintain critical program stability. It recently underwent an extensive update in advance of its silver anniversary this year, providing new functionality such as new search filters, a simplified batch search and access to months of historical data.
In conjunction with FLIS, FED LOG forms the foundation for all logistics information systems and allows access to more than 15 million supply items used by the U.S. government and NATO.
