PHILADELPHIA –
The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support celebrated the Air Force’s 70th birthday Sept. 12 as Maj. Donald Steel and Master Sgt. Naka Turner, representing the oldest and youngest airmen, respectively, serving at Troop Support, cut a traditional birthday cake during the weekly senior leaders staff meeting.
While the U.S. military purchased its first aircraft in 1909, the Air Force didn’t become an independent service until 1947.
The Air Force created a website to commemorate its 70th birthday. The site highlights each generation of airpower, from 1947 to today. It showcases the barriers the Air Force has overcome to dominate the air, space and cyberspace domains, while looking toward the future of multi-domain command and control and the airmen who will help to keep the U.S. Air Force the greatest on the planet.
