NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
Peruvian Army Maj. Gen. Jaime Fernando Malpica Lozada, G-4 director of logistics, and members of his team visited DLA Distribution headquarters Oct. 26 for an overview of DLA Distribution, and a tour of DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s Eastern Distribution Center, the largest storage facility in the Department of Defense.
After an office call with Distribution commanding general Army Brig. Gen. John S. Laskodi, the team met with key Distribution staff to receive an organizational overview highlighting DLA Distribution’s global reach extending to over 50 locations aligned across 20 states, eight countries, and all Combatant Commands, with particular focus on the how to develop the capabilities between the U.S. and Peru Armies.
Additionally, the visit to Distribution headquarters helped Lozada and his team understand how the U.S. manages logistics in an effort to form a stabilization mission by 2030, ensuring the Army of Peru is interoperable with the U.S. Army.
Lozada questioned if Distribution manufactured their own materials and it was explained that Troop Support, Land and Maritime, and Aviation purchase materials from private manufacturers and then Distribution receives, stores and issues from its warehouses.
Another point of interest for Lozada and his team was the import and export system for military cargo. “Import/export laws in Peru are very rigid. How do your laws help or hinder distribution?”
“We have many checks and balances and internal controls in place. Within DLA, we have a model called the defense working capital fund,” said DLA Distribution deputy commander Twila Gonzales, SES.
Charlie Albright, director of DLA Finance further explained “we have a business relationship with U.S. military services.”
Following the briefing, Susquehanna commander Army Col. Brad J. Eungard escorted the group on a tour of DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s Eastern Distribution Center.
