CFC kicks off at DLA Land and Maritime

Federal workers and retirees can now donate online to the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Combined Federal Campaign.

The Office of Personnel Management unveiled the new centralized giving platform at, which replaces the Universal Giving website previously managed by United Way.

Additionally, each local campaign has a dedicated presence – or zone – under the CFC Giving website where donors can download charity catalogs and gain additional information on local campaigns. You can find DLA Land and Maritime’s local CFC website at, or by entering the installation’s zip code in the search bar at the CFC Giving site.

The national campaign underwent a significant reorganization in early 2017 when OPM announced it would take ownership of the half-century-old program citing cost-savings and efficiencies.

DLA Land and Maritime campaign coordinator Janet Bunnell said she expects this year to be a learning year as donors and coordinators alike navigate the changes.

“There are some really positive changes in terms of how we can give in this year’s campaign that are really exciting,” said Bunnell, DLA Land and Maritime’s Executive Programs chief. “We’ll have some bumps along the way just because it’s new.

Volunteering time was among changes Bunnell highlighted during CFC Captains training Oct. 27.

“Through the new website, you can find organizations in your local area that are looking for volunteers,” Bunnell said. “Especially with the younger generations, they’ve found that there’s a desire to want to go see how these charity organizations run, where your money may be going, and how to pitch in and help.”

To help ease the transition for associates, Bunnell said she plans to host three one-hour sessions to help associates learn how to donate through the new CFC Giving website. CFC captains will be on hand to help associates with creating accounts and making pledges through the site. The help sessions will be held in Building 20 from 11 a.m. – noon on Nov. 16 (Superior Room), Nov. 30 (Michigan Room) and Dec. 14 (Ontario Room). Walk-ins are welcome.

Among the changes to this year’s campaign: 

  • The CFC Giving portal replaces myPay and Nexus as a single secure web-based site to accept online donations and set up payroll deductions. 
  • Donors can choose a one-time or recurring monthly pledge via a credit card, debit card, or direct bank transfer (electronic fund transfer). 
  • Federal employees who choose payroll giving must pledge at least $1 per pay period. The minimum credit card contribution is $10. 
  • Donating cash will no longer be permitted. 
  • Undesignated contributions are no longer permitted. Donors must designate their pledges to specific CFC charities. 
  • For the next five years, donors also have the option of completing a paper pledge card and submitting it to the Central Campaign Administrator using the address provided on the pledge form. Paper pledge donors may only donate via payroll deduction or check. Cash will not be accepted. Pledge forms are available for download at the CFC Giving website. 
  • Fundraisers – which are largely cash-driven – will no longer be permitted. 
  • CFC donors can pledge volunteer hours in addition to monetary donations. Volunteer hours may be "monetized" to count toward the total amount raised by departments, agencies, and units. 
  • For the first time, Federal retirees will have the option to continue supporting their favorite charitable causes through the CFC via a deduction from their annuity.
