DLA Distribution Jacksonville welcomes new director

Charles Crumb assumed command of DLA Distribution Jacksonville, Florida, on Nov. 12.

Born in Danville, Pennsylvania, Crumb enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1993, where he spent three years as a Combat Engineer.  He served overseas with the 40th Engineer Battalion in Baumholder, Germany. Deploying as a demolitions team lead to Bosnia with 1st Armor Division, 2nd Brigade to support the Implementation Force comprised of a NATO- led multinational peace enforcement force, Operation Joint Endeavour.

From 1997 to 2005, after completion of his Army enlistment, Crumb worked his way from warehouseman to distribution facilities specialist/manager for DLA Distribution Europe.  He held various positons ranging from hazardous materials packer to deputy chief of the Receiving Division. He was responsible for receipt, storage and oversight of the hazardous and nonhazardous material program.  He served in this capacity until he was selected as a distribution facilities manager with DLA Distribution Norfolk, Virginia, in January 2005.

From January 2005 until October 2006, Crumb served with DLA Distribution Norfolk as director of the Receiving Division which included the Material Processing Center, overseeing the  receipt, storage, issue, packaging and shipping of local naval customers requisitions. He served for a little more than one and a half years until he was selected as a distribution facilities manager with DLA Distribution Europe, in October 2006.

From October 2006 until August 2015, Crumb served with DLA Distribution Europe and held various positions to include; chief of Theater Consolidation and Shipping Point-Europe, chief of Issue Division, and DLA Distribution Europe’s operations officer, where he was responsible for the overall effectiveness of Distribution Center operations. Some of his key projects included optimizing the storage and distribution of maps located at DLA Distribution Europe. He coordinated with the DLA Aviation Team to decrease the dormant inventory from 7.3 Million sheets to only 1.3 Million sheets. He also served as the project manager to prepare the concept of operations and facilitated the new business of storage and distribution of the Army Rapidly Emplaced Bridge System reset mission for TACOM and participated in the planning of the increasing of non-registered mail service that DLA Distribution Europe provides for remote locations in EUCOM.  He served in this capacity until he was selected as a distribution facilities manager with DLA Distribution Jacksonville, Florida, in August 2015.

From August 2015 until November 2017, Crumb served as deputy director of DLA Distribution Jacksonville, Florida, focusing on the safety, storage layout, audit readiness compliance, facility upgrades and improving operational performance metrics. His duties included oversight for a contractor operated distribution center providing worldwide support, with a primary customer base located in the southeast region of NORTHCOM.

Crumb has received many letters of commendation and is the recipient of numerous civilian and military awards, including the DLA Meritorious Civilian Service Award, DLA Performance Award for Sustained Superior Performance, two Army Achievement Medals, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with one bronze stars, Armed forces Service Medal, and NATO Medal.

“Charlie is the right leader to follow Brian and continue the sustained, outstanding performance of the Jacksonville team.  I'm grateful for the experience he will bring to the position, coupled with his ability to "think outside the box" to modernize our Distribution network for the future,” said DLA Distribution commanding general Army Brig. Gen. John S. Laskodi.
