NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
Israel Security Assistance Liaison Officers visited the largest distribution center in the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution network, DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 11 to learn about DLA’s global logistics processes and how DLA Distribution supports foreign military sales customers.
Scott Rosbaugh, director of strategic plans at DLA Distribution headquarters, led a discussion which highlighted DLA Distribution’s worldwide network, special functions the command provides - such as kitting and hazardous material handling - and transportation coordination that the organization provides for all of DLA. The group expressed interest in learning more about how the complete distribution chain works from the point of order, how it’s processed through the system and the path of transportation to reach end state.
Upon completion of the DLA presentation discussion, the group toured the Unit Materiel Fielding Point where they were able to put eyes on their specific FMS items and ask direct questions on how it’s processed through the system.
To better visualize how the distribution process works, the group visited DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s Eastern Distribution Center, the largest warehouse in the Department of Defense. They toured the receiving, processing, storage, retrieval and outloading operations, where they saw the supply chain in action. The tour included the organization’s key locations, including the Consolidation and Containerization Point, the high-rise storage and retrieval system, and the air line of communication pallet build area.
The visit’s purpose allowed the Israel Security Liaison Officers to meet and greet face-to-face for a LIVEEX meeting with DLA Distribution Strategic Plan representatives and counterparts, and participate in an orientation to DLA’s Distribution Operations.
