20th LRS meets supply, demand

By Senior Airman Ashley Maldonado 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs

In order to ensure Team Shaw’s F-16CM Fighting Falcons are ready to accomplish the mission, Airmen assigned to 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron aircraft parts store verify each aircraft has every part needed.

The aircraft parts store Airmen maintain, inventory and deliver all parts for the base’s F-16s. When 20th Maintenance Group Airmen require an item, they request it through the APS, notifying the Airmen to pull the part from stock, and prepare it for delivery.

Airman 1st Class Luis Gonzalez, 20th LRS material management APS apprentice, said the main mission of the shop is to provide direct support to the base’s three aircraft maintenance units and a variety of other customers on base.

“Our entire process is picking up inbound parts, verifying each part is what it’s labeled as, taking it back to the warehouse, placing it in the correct location, scanning the document it came with to in-process the part into the Integrated Logistics System Supply tracking system and signing the document,” said Airman 1st Class Amanda Cordell, 20th LRS material management APS journeyman.

The Airmen receive and distribute more than 100 aircraft parts worth millions of dollars per day.

“We all work as a team,” said Cordell. “We support the mission for the maintainers. If they don’t have a part or the correct part, a jet can’t get off the ground and can’t support our mission. We’re a huge team. We rely on everybody, and they rely on us.”

Whenever Shaw’s F-16s deploy, APS Airmen and the squadron’s “kit” go with them to ensure the jets have the spare parts needed if anything is damaged. These kits consist of many aircraft parts ranging from nuts and bolts to jet tires.

“Our mission is to bring the world's most lethal combat force parts to any place at any time,” said Gonzalez. “Our motto is ‘You Can't Fly Without Supply!’ That holds true each and every day in the aircraft parts store.”

The Airmen in the APS not only work as a team within the shop, they contribute to the 20th FW mission by helping keep jets in the air and enabling the pilots to safely and effectively complete their objective.
