YOKOSUKA, Japan –
Navy Cmdr. AJ Rivera assumed command of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Yokosuka, Japan, in a March 2 ceremony. The ceremony was officiated by DLA Pacific commander Navy Capt. Timothy Daniels.
A Pennsylvania native, Rivera graduated from University of Pittsburgh with distinction on a full academic scholarship. He received his commission from Carnegie Mellon University Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1999. He earned a Master of Science in business administration from San Diego State University in 2005 and a Master of Science in operations research from Naval Postgraduate School in 2009.
Rivera’s supply corps sea duty assignments include tours on USS Cleveland (LPD 7) and USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67). He had the honor to be a member of the decommissioning crew onboard CV-67.
Additionally, Rivera’s ashore assignments include material control officer, Sea Control Squadron (VS 41); readiness officer, Aviation Support Division; wing supply officer, COMSEACONWINGPAC; operations research analyst – POM, OPNAV N81 Assessment Division; spares policy and supply services officer, U.S. Fleet Forces Command N41; performance and analysis branch head, NAVSUP Headquarters N52; and director of operations research and analysis, NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support N61.
Rivera completed a Navy GWOT Support Assignment (GSA) as J8 Commander’s Emergency Response Program (CERP) operations chief, U.S. Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A), Kabul, Afghanistan.
Most recently, Rivera served as Director of Operations Research and Analysis at NAVSUP Weapons System Support in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
Personal awards include a Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various unit and campaign commendations.
